In a festive gesture aimed at easing the burden of the holiday season, the Tony Elumelu Foundation distributed essential food items to residents of Onicha-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and empowering youths across Africa.

Speaking at the event, the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Emma Bazim Chinye, highlighted the purpose of the exercise. “This initiative is designed to ease the burden on our residents and ensure that support reaches those who truly need it,” he said. He also praised Dr. Tony Elumelu and his family for their continued dedication to helping the vulnerable, noting that the Foundation’s programs, which provide grants to enterprising youths across Africa, have become more inclusive and community-oriented.

Chairman Chinye disclosed that the Foundation made available 2,000 bags of rice and 200 bags of beans for distribution across various groups, including local communities, NYSC members, orphanages, the College of Nursing School in Onicha-Uku, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). “Transparency and fairness guided the entire process,” he added, assuring residents that the distribution was closely supervised to ensure accountability and equity.

He encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the items and reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to people-centered programs. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this exercise and to those who participated peacefully. Such collective efforts strengthen unity and enhance the well-being of our community,” he said.

The distribution was met with appreciation from recipients, many of whom described the gesture as a step toward fostering a more caring and inclusive local government. Mr. Jude Onwenna of Ifhiekbe Quarter expressed his delight, stating, “We are grateful for this show of kindness during the festive season.” Similarly, Mr. Lambert Amaefule from Mbaifoli Village in Imo State thanked God for using the Tony Elumelu Foundation to support them annually with essential food items.

The yuletide distribution in Onicha-Uku underscores the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s dual mission of social responsibility and youth empowerment.

By extending practical support to local communities while promoting programs that nurture entrepreneurship across Africa, the Foundation continues to strengthen bonds, alleviate hardship, and create lasting impact during the festive season and beyond.

This year’s exercise in Delta State affirms the Foundation’s commitment to uplifting communities and highlights the importance of collective goodwill in building a more inclusive and caring society.
