Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Muslims to sustain prayers for global peace, warning that ongoing tensions in the Middle East are contributing to economic pressures being felt worldwide.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir,  to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Senator Barau rejoiced with Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, following the declaration by the Sultanate Council that Friday, March 20, 2026, marks the first day of Shawwal 1447AH.

The lawmaker urged the Muslim Ummah to uphold the values of piety, sacrifice, and compassion imbibed during the holy month.
He also highlighted the global implications of the ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, noting that the situation has triggered price shocks affecting economies across the world, including Nigeria.

However, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as relentless efforts to stabilise the nation’s economy through reforms and policy interventions.

He further praised the President’s handling of security challenges, particularly the fight against insurgency and banditry, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the administration.
“We must all continue to accord him all the support needed to achieve this,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President expressed optimism that the directive by President Tinubu for security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri in the wake of recent terrorist attacks would help in flushing out criminal elements.

On the economy, Barau noted that the 2026 budget, currently under consideration by the National Assembly, would, upon passage and implementation, significantly address infrastructure deficits and other national challenges.

He also called on Muslims to extend love and charity beyond the festive period.
“Glory be to Allah SWT for the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan. This is a period of joy and happiness, as well as a time to show appreciation to Almighty Allah. Let’s spread love and help people in need during and after the festive period,” he said.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker disclosed that he had disbursed N157 million to constituents across the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District as part of his Sallah outreach.
The distribution, which began on March 18, is targeted at supporting vulnerable groups to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with ease and dignity.

In addition, he added that over 60,000 bags of food items have been distributed across Kano North and other parts of Kano State during the Ram
adan and Sallah period.
