The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims connecting its recent enforcement action in Ilorin, Kwara State, to protests by students of Kwara State Polytechnic.

Spokesman for the Commission, Dele Oyewale in a statement yesterday, clarified that EFCC”s operatives from the Ilorin Zonal Directorate carried out a targeted sting operation at two buildings in the Agbede community, leading to the arrest of 30 suspected internet fraudsters.

Among those apprehended were six students of the Polytechnic, who, according to the Commission, were found to be actively involved in cybercrime following preliminary profiling.

The EFCC emphasised that the operation was conducted outside the premises of the institution and did not interfere with academic activities.

He described attempts to link the protest to its actions as “contrived” and a misrepresentation of facts, noting that no part of the Polytechnic was accessed during the raid.

Items recovered during the operation include eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime, as well as mobile phones and laptops.

Oyewale, therefore assured the public that its operations were carried out within the bounds of the law.

He further reiterated that channels remain open for reporting any misconduct by its personnel, stressing its dedication to serving the broader interests of Nigerians.
