African Green Peace Initiative, an NGO led by Dr Uzoya Okuogbosun, has called on the APC to give it’s gubernatorial ticket for the 2024 elections in Edo State to Professor Oserheimen Osunbor because he has the vision to redeem the state.
Besides, he specifically appealed to the leaders of the party in Edo Central to cooperate and speak with one voice by supporting Prof. Osunbor to clinch the party’s ticket, knowing that the two other Senatorial Districts who have occupied the state governorship in turn, were also in the governorship race.
Addressing journalists at the Media Correpondents Chapel secretariat in Benin City on the rationale for the group’s call, Dr Okuogbosun who is the President of the organization said, “It is going to take a human and visionary personality like His Excellency Professor Oserheimen Osunbor to redeem Edo state from the current decay, hopelessness and deadly existence”.
Comparing Osunbor with former Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Professor Ambrose Alli, he said the gubernatorial aspirant is, “a devout Christian”, “…a God fearing and self-effacing leader”, “who is an embodiment of knowledge in every sphere of life i.e intellectual, humanity and altruism”.
Dr. Okuogbosun recalled that during the period Osunbor served as governor before he was ousted by the Court he, “Emphasized that administration and governance of any society is for the upliftment of the human race”.
“These Virtues were exemplified by him when as Executive Governor of Edo state for the short period of his administration he increased the monthly subvention payable to the State University- Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and other tertiary institutions in the State”.
In addition, the President of African Green Peace Initiative said Osunbor as governor “created a credit system whereby public officers and civil servants were able to access loans for agricultural purposes” adding that, “In his compassionate nature he thought it wise to pay bursary to Edo students in tertiary institutions across the country”.
Professor Oserheimen Osunbor as governor, Dr Okuogbosun argued, had a visionary leadership style which saw him embark on massive infrastructure development of the State, describing him as the one sent to take Edo to the New age like the sage, late Professor Ambrose Alli.
