Wife of Edo State governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has told Mrs. Tina Okhiria to consider spending her life in jail with her husband if she considers withdrawing the violence case leveled against her husband and reuniting with him as his wife.

It will be recalled that Mrs. Tina Okhiria was recently shot by her husband in the hand, which eventually led to the amputation of her hand.

However, in a twist of the matter, Okhiria was said to have sworn to an affidavit stating that her husband’s actions were not intentional. Reacting to the alleged move to reunite with her husband, Mrs. Obaseki warned that any attempt to discontinue the violence charged against her husband would lead her to jail.

She restated the governor’s resolute stance against gender-based violence and the need to ensure justice. In a meeting at the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, Mrs. Obaseki expressed shock and disappointment at Mrs. Okhiria’s sworn affidavit to that effect.

She stressed that the government had already taken up the case and would not back down on it, adding that any attempt to withdraw the charges would result in her being added to the legal proceedings under the compounding felony clause.

“This provision, within the VAPP Law, could lead to both Mrs. Okhiria and her husband serving jail time,” Mrs. Obaseki said.

She said the government’s responsibility was to ensure a safe society for all citizens, stressing the importance of speaking up and seeking justice in such cases.

Mrs Obaseki revealed the ongoing efforts to provide Mrs. Okhiria with the best electronic prosthesis globally, highlighting the significant costs involved.
