“Economic Genocide”: Group says CBN harming economy by providing dollars to BDC operators

  • Says Tinubu NASS members incompetent

From Jeff Amechi Agbodo, Onitsha

The Southern Nigeria People’s Mandate (SNPM) has criticized the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for distributing dollars to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators at a rate of N1,200 to one dollar, labeling this action as economic genocide against the Nigerian populace struggling to afford their daily sustenance.

President Augustine Chukwudum of the SNPM, along with Secretary Segun Diya, issued a statement expressing their strong condemnation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing efforts, which, they argue, exacerbate the daily hardships and struggles faced by the populace.

“It will recalled that within the week the apex bank CBN released dollars to BDC operators at the rate of over N1200 to one dollar. When President Tinubu presented the 2024 budget to the National Assembly he pegged the exchange rate at the rate of N600 to one dollar, today under the same administration, the dollar has skyrocketed to over one hundred percent. We are calling on him to do something on our economy before it’s too late to save Nigerians from the looming danger of hunger and disaster,” the statement reads.

“We are raising this alarm because the Tinubu administration is not interested in making things better for the masses who have been in hellfire for nearly 25 years of civil rule from 1999 to date based on his policies and programmes.

“We renew our calls to civil society to rise up to checkmate this anti-masses administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because our people at National Assembly who claimed to be our representatives are there for their selfish interest that is why none of them is talking about the welfare of Nigeria suffering masses.

“They are only interested in collecting huge amounts of money to buy houses in Dubai, London, USA and other developed countries while Nigerians masses are busy suffering and heading to the abyss.

“Nigerians must be enlightened to know that nothing good will come out from this administration that is busy creating more poverty for the masses. It is time for all to join our voice to call President Tinubu and all the members of the national assembly to resign because they have proved to Nigerians that they are incompetent to run the affairs of this country as executive and legislature.

“This call for their resignation is a project that all Nigerians must be involved in because hunger does not know tribe nor religion” the group stated.
