The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Mustapha Abdullahi, has hosted members of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Abuja, reaffirming the Federal Government’s drive to expand solar energy deployment across the country.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the federal and state governments to tackle persistent energy shortages, particularly in critical public institutions such as hospitals, schools, and government offices.
Dr. Abdullahi explained that the nationwide solarization initiative is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at decentralizing Nigeria’s energy framework through the adoption of renewable energy solutions.

He noted that scaling up solar power infrastructure would not only improve electricity access but also reduce dependence on the national grid and support environmental sustainability.
According to him, the project is expected to boost energy reliability in public facilities while accelerating Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly commended the initiative, pledging legislative backing from state assemblies to ensure smooth and timely implementation.
The solarization programme, introduced in 2025, forms a core part of the Federal Government’s broader clean energy strategy to power public institutions nationwide through sustainable energy technologies.
