Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has barred 29 contractors from executing government projects till the end of his administration.
The State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor disclosed this to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital at a press briefing on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.
He noted that the 29 contractors were barred for unsatisfactory performance
“Council considered a report on the performance of different contractors handling jobs in the ongoing Estates for the resettlement of Izzo and Amaeze autonomous communities in Ishielu Local Government Area.
“Council approved the blacklisting of 29 contractors for unsatisfactory performance and barred them from executing further jobs in the state.
“His Excellency the Governor does not want anybody to constitute a cock in the wheel of his progress and the progress of the state. He is in a haste to make sure that dividends of democracy are delivered to the people of Ebonyi State.
“And no contractor no matter how highly placed, will constitute an impediment to the developmental expectation of the people of the state.
“These contractors are handling 140 housing units meant to resettle the people of Izzo and Ameze communities during the Ezza-Ezzillio war in Ishieleu Local Government Area of the State”, he said.
The Commissioner disclosed that the executive council set up a Peace Committee to liaise with the earlier constituted Implementation Committee and concerned line ministries to actualize the Government White Paper on the restoration of permanent peace between Effium and Ezza Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
“The Chairman of Council and Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru re-emphasized that his administration will continue to do everything humanly possible to ensure peace in all parts of the state. He assured that the government would ensure the implementation of the approved recommendations in the White Paper within the limit of the state economy, so as to have lasting peace between Effium and Ezza Effium in Ohaukwu LGA.”
