The revived Nkaliki hatchery in Ebonyi State, owned by the government, has resumed poultry production.
The company was revitalised last two years by Governor Francis Nwifuru and was producing poultry in large quantities until it stopped.
However, the hatchery has resumed poultry production.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, said the revival of the hatchery is not only about restoring old structures, but about what happens inside the company.
“Today, the poultry section is back in production, with both layers and broilers being raised at the facility. The layers are producing eggs, and members of the public, businesses, and private buyers are already coming to Nkaliki to purchase them. This is the kind of practical agricultural activity that turns infrastructure into real economic value.
“For a facility that once produced thousands of birds and eggs before its decline, seeing chickens and eggs back at Nkaliki is significant. The old Nkaliki was an important source of food, employment, and commercial activity across Ebonyi and beyond. Its revival, therefore, represents more than the return of poultry production; it is the reopening of an agricultural value chain.
“This is exactly the practical direction Governor Francis Nwifuru has envisioned under The People’s Charter of Needs – using practical farming to increase food production, create jobs, strengthen livelihoods, and build a more productive agricultural economy.
“The reactivation of Nkaliki Poultry Farm was specifically identified in the governor’s agricultural agenda. And there is more to come. The feed mill is also under construction, with the objective of strengthening the value chain and eventually making feeds available to poultry and livestock farmers within and beyond Ebonyi State.
“We may not yet be where we intend to be, but the important thing is that the revival has started, production has returned, and Nkaliki is working again. Ebonyians and the general public can visit the Nkaliki Hatchery and buy from the farm. The journey continues. The structures are back. The birds are back. Production is back. And more is coming”, he said.
