From Wilson Okereke, Afikpo
People living with different forms of disabilities under the platform, Nigeria Physically Challenged People’s Assembly (NPCPA), Ebonyi State chapter, have received 200 bags of fertilizers from the state government.
The input was distributed to their members across the 13 council areas of the state.
President of the group, Joseph Enyi, a legal practitioner who performed the distribution applauded the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Nkechinyere Iyioku, for her magnanimity and motherly love.
Enyi noted that this was the first time their members were considered with agricultural input, be it from the state or federal government: “I’m happy over this gesture from our kind-hearted governor because this is the first of its kind and I’m praying that he should be successful in every aspect of his administration.”
He praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for impacting people’s lives positively especially for changing the fortunes of some street hawkers from the state with N2million lifeline to 500 persons in the first tranche. He appealed to the government to accommodate their members in the scheme.
Enyi regretted that their members were excluded during the capturing of beneficiaries for the N5,000 humanitarian support by the Federal Government.
Representative of Afikpo LGA at the distribution, Idam Chukwu, said the state government’s gesture would enhance his farming activities and hopefully translate to bountiful agricultural produce during harvest: “I am appealing that the assistance to the physically challenged persons should not stop at the provision of fertilizers only rather it should cut across other programmes involving cash.”
Another beneficiary, Daniel Okike, from Ohaozara LGA said the donation has made them believe strongly that the present administration would also care for the destitute: “For having given out these bags of fertilizer to the nearly forgotten persons like us shows that we shall be remembered in other subsequent programmes of this present administration, so, I’m praying for more wisdom upon the governor.”
Daily Sun learnt that all the clusters of the union comprising the deaf and dumb, the blind, spinal cords, albinos, widows and widowers and three other groups, were properly represented in the sharing.
