As part of the celebration of Easter, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has distributed 25kg bags of rice to scores of residents in Ogun Central senatorial district of Ogun State.
The Minister, according to a source who preferred anonymity disclosed that the distribution of the food item was quietly done and was also extended to traditional rulers, religious bodies, as well as political leaders in all the six local government areas of the senatorial district.
He noted that the gesture was part of the Finance Minister’s contributions to the commemoration of the Easter celebration, the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitri which signals the end of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of the 72nd birthday of President Bola Tinubu.
The source who is also a beneficiary of the largesse added that the Minister had in December during the Christmas Yuletide, distributed bags of rice to the 236 wards in the state, including some traditional rulers across the state.
The source further explained that the gestures are in line with the Minister’s policy of giving back to society and providing succour for the people in view of the current harsh economic situation in the country.
“The first phase of the distribution was centred at the 74 wards in the six local government areas of Ogun Central of the state, arrangements are ongoing to extend the gesture to all the local government areas of the state.
“Royal fathers, political leaders, religious leaders as well as some churches and mosques, have acknowledged receipt of the donation, and they have started sending appreciation messages and prayers to the Minister for the food item,” the source stated.
