From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, on Sunday, said the simultaneity of this year’s fasting period for both Christians and Muslims across the globe should serve as enough lessons for religious tolerance and harmony.
In a congratulatory message to Christians on the celebration of this year’s Easter made available by his Media Office, Babayemi, asserted that the adherents of Christianity and Islam should learn to live in harmony by tolerating one another’s beliefs.
He said, “It’s gladdening that almost at the same time, Christians and Muslims are fasting. Should we say this is a divine coincidence? In whatever way we all look at it, there are embedded lessons of tolerance and harmony to learn. This is because, without any rancour, everyone is pursuing his or her belief.”
Babayemi urged that the spirit of understanding and unity be sustained by all religious adherents, advising that the sustenance of peace in society must always be the concern of everyone.
“We all know that the importance of peace can not be overemphasized. This is because, without it, the much-desired development of our nation will perpetually be elusive. So let’s all ensure we live peaceably among ourselves,” Babayemi said.
According to him, this will enable everyone to be focused on good governance and how the lots of the citizenry could be bettered.
While further congratulating the Christians on the conclusion of Lent and the ultimate celebration of Easter, he urged them to continue to pray for the growth and development of the country.
