Nigerian Nollywood actor, artiste, model, and polyglot, Bryan Boomba Okoye, has received two international honours in the United States for his role in the socially conscious film, For Ikemefuna.

Okoye won Best Supporting Actor at the Crown Point International Film Festival in Chicago, Illinois, while the film also clinched Best Film at the Orlando Urban Film Festival in Orlando, Florida.

Reacting, the actor described the recognition as “deeply humbling and very affirming,” adding that the awards validated the discipline and collaboration behind the project.

Okoye further revealed that his preparation for the role demanded intense physical and emotional commitment including learning how to ride an Okada to accurately portray a bike rider and petty trader. He also worked extensively on portraying a stammer, a process he said required research, sensitivity, and restraint to ensure it was done truthfully and respectfully.

“Moments like this remind me why I chose this path: to tell honest stories and create work that resonates beyond borders,” he added.

For Ikemefuna explores the destructive impact of xenophobia across South Africa, Nigeria, and the wider African continent.
