The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended Dickson Ovat Agbor, representing Obubra I State Constituency, indefinitely over allegations of domestic violence.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mathew Okache, said the Assembly’s decision followed a motion moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo.

In the motion, the Assembly condemned the alleged violent behaviour involving Agbor, describing it as conduct unbecoming of a lawmaker and contrary to the ethical standards expected of its members.

The Assembly also approved the constitution of a committee to investigate the matter and report its findings back to the House for further legislative action.

Agbor, who was present during the plenary, was subsequently escorted out of the chamber in compliance with the directive of the House.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, said the House remains committed to upholding discipline, dignity and the integrity of the legislature.

Agbor is alleged to have beaten his wife, Mrs. Glory Agbor, to a pulp after accusing her of illicit affair.

Her images surfaced online depicting her with swollen eyes after the encounter with her husband, an incident which happened over the weekend.

However, in some statements credited to her on social media, she denied allegations of domestic violence against her husband, saying what happened was a marital affair  misunderstood and blown out of proportions.
