Groundwater is essential for drinking water and supports agriculture and livelihoods globally. However, many regions face the challenges of groundwater depletion and contamination, which pose significant threats to ecosystems and public health. Dolapo Adegbite, a leading expert in the field of geophysics, her work has contributed to the protection of groundwater resources, while building resilience against water scarcity. In her published research, “Application of VES and VLF-EM Methods for Groundwater Exploration through Overburden Thickness Estimation of Aquiferous Zones within Kabawa Area, Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria,” Adegbite demonstrated the effectiveness of advanced geophysical methods for identifying groundwater-rich zones.
Her study applied Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) and Very Low-Frequency Electromagnetic (VLF-EM) techniques to explore aquifer characteristics, including resistivity and overburden thickness—key factors for sustainable groundwater management.
