Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural development, linking it to a broader vision geared towards transforming the state into a thriving hub for economic and civic growth.

The governor made this vow during the presentation and launching of his book titled “Leadership Chronicles of Douye Diri”, held at the University of Lagos on Wednesday, November 5.

Speaking before an audience filled with admirers and political associates, Governor Diri expressed profound gratitude for the turnout at the event, which he described as a vote of confidence in his leadership. The book, authored and compiled by Professor Hope Eghagha and veteran media expert Sola Ojewusi, offers a reflective journey through Diri’s stewardship as governor, recounting milestones in governance, crisis management, and developmental strides.

“I am deeply honoured to have a book launched in my name. Going through the pages inspired me even more to remain steadfast in my duties,” Governor Diri said, visibly moved by the occasion. “The development of Bayelsa has always been and will always remain my top priority. Every stride we make, every project we commission is for the prosperity of our people.”

He also addressed his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a strategic decision taken solely in the interest of Bayelsa. According to Diri, the shift in political alignment was borne out of his desire to unlock new opportunities for the oil-rich state — a goal he believes is better served within the ruling party’s political structure.

“I have no hidden agenda,” he declared. “My decision to join the APC was made with the best interest of Bayelsans at heart. It is about providing roads, improving security, boosting agriculture, expanding education, and creating jobs for our youth. With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, I am confident that the synergy we’ve built will lead to greater progress.”

Expressing his admiration for the support from the Presidency, Governor Diri commended President Tinubu’s open-door policy and Shettima’s unwavering support for Bayelsa’s development. “Their love and cooperation have been instrumental in what we have achieved so far,” he stated.

Delivering a public lecture at the event, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, lauded Diri’s leadership, citing visible improvements in the state’s infrastructure and quality of life. “From water supply to agriculture, Douye Diri has turned the tide,” Mutfwang remarked. “The last time I visited Bayelsa, the situation was dire, but today, the story has changed. His efforts offer a template for others to follow.”

Media veteran Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, who also spoke at the book review, urged governors across Nigeria to embrace effective self-promotion and transparency in governance. “If governors don’t blow their own trumpet, who will?” he asked. “Many do good work but fail to communicate it. Diri is doing well not just in leadership but also in documenting and sharing his legacy.”

University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, added her voice to the praises, noting that chronicling leadership journeys in literature is crucial for future generations.

In all, the event was more than just a book launch; it was a tribute to leadership, a moment of reflection, and a pledge to a future where Bayelsa stands as a beacon of progress amid Nigeria’s regions.
