DICON Partners with Over 50 Foreign and Local Entities to Boost Military Production

  • DG Edet Appeals to DICON Staff to Avoid Industrial Actions, Encourages Partnerships

From Noah Ebije , Kaduna

The Director General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Major General Aniedi Edet, announced that the corporation has partnered with over 50 foreign and local partners since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the amended DICON Act into law in November 2023.

General Edet emphasized that these partnerships, especially with foreign investors, will significantly enhance Nigeria’s military industrial complex. He highlighted that these investors bring both financial resources and expertise in various aspects of defence production.

During a routine engagement with DICON staff at the Ordinance Factory in Kaduna, General Edet appealed to the workers to refrain from industrial actions like recent protests over unpaid allowances. He argued that such actions could discourage foreign partners from investing and threaten national security.

The DG clarified misconceptions regarding DICON’s payment platform and unpaid benefits. He presented documents demonstrating that several other federal government agencies face similar situations. He assured the staff that DICON management is actively pursuing the resolution of these outstanding benefits with the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Speaking to journalists after the engagement, General Edet emphasized the importance of staff engagement and communication. He outlined the five management pillars guiding DICON’s operations, including business orientation, professionalism, communication, staff welfare, and partnerships.

He highlighted the progress made in production, including the development of kamikaze drones, and the significant increase in partnerships since the amended DICON Act was signed. He stressed the importance of maintaining a positive image for DICON to attract further investment and ensure national security.

During the engagement, General Edet recognized and rewarded staff who have demonstrated exceptional performance and contributed to the recent fire outbreak response at the DICON Ordinance Factory.
