The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Chris Najomo, has stressed the need for strong industrial harmony in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Speaking at a joint training programme organised by the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) in Lagos, he warned that unresolved workplace disputes could threaten safety and public confidence.
Najomo urged aviation managers and workers to prioritise dialogue and constructive engagement in resolving conflicts.
Najomo noted that rapid technological changes, increasing traffic demands, and complex workforce dynamics make cooperation between management and staff more critical than ever.

He cautioned that disruptions within the sector, even when well-intentioned, could have far-reaching consequences for flight safety, economic stability, and passenger trust.
To him, industrial action should only be considered as a last resort after all channels of dialogue have been exhausted.
The DGCA also reaffirmed the aviation authority’s commitment to fostering a fair and safe working environment through strengthened institutional frameworks and a “just culture” that balances accountability with professionalism.
In his remarks, the NCAA Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Ahmad Abba, commended international partners and participants, emphasising that effective industrial relations in aviation must be anchored on mutual respect, structured dialogue, and a shared responsibility for safety and efficient service delivery.
The five-day training, which runs from March 23 to 27, 2026, focused on industrial relations and negotiation skills for air traffic controllers, came amid growing operational pressures in the aviation industry.
