Director-general of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Kwara State, Issa Aremu, has commended the inclusion and retention of labour, women, youth, people living with disabilities (PWDs) and civil society directorates in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Aremu, who is also the Deputy Director of Labour/Union Relations of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, said the broad-based composition of the council was a positive development that reflected the importance of inclusive politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued in Ilorin recently, the labour leader said the inclusion of organised labour in the campaign structure was significant because workers and other social groups constitute a critical component of the electorate.
He described labour’s inclusion as “much a validation of progressive politics as well as commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Decent Work agenda as recommended by the International Labour Organization (ILO).”
Aremu said while geographical representation and regional balance remained important considerations in the composition of a presidential campaign, the interests of millions of workers, women and young people could not be ignored in a democratic contest.
According to him, issues affecting workers, including secure employment, living wages and regular payment of pensions, would be critical to the choices voters make in the 2027 elections.
He said the campaign should therefore provide an opportunity for Nigerians to interrogate the policy direction and performance of the government, insisting that the election should be driven by issues rather than personalities.
Aremu particularly congratulated Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, on his appointment as Director of Labour/Union Relations of the Presidential Campaign Council, describing him as eminently qualified to engage organised labour on the administration’s policies and achievements.

He noted that Idris, a former National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and former Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), had recorded what he described as commendable achievements in Kebbi State in the area of industrial harmony.
According to Aremu, the governor’s prompt payment of salaries and pensions, abolition of casualisation and other worker-friendly reforms had positioned him to effectively interface with organised labour on the labour record of the Tinubu administration.
The MINILS Director-General also congratulated Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State, on his appointment as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, and Governor Hope Uzodimma on his appointment as Secretary of the council.
Aremu equally hailed the appointment of former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as Head of Mobilisation, describing the former labour leader’s experience as an asset to the campaign’s mobilisation efforts.
He congratulated James Abiodun Faleke on his appointment as Deputy Director-General in charge of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, stressing that the structure would be expected to ensure effective coordination of the campaign and electoral process.
Aremu said the 2027 election should ultimately be “about policy issues of governance and nothing more,” urging the campaign council to focus on issues that directly affect the welfare and aspirations of Nigerians.
The official announcement, signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima would serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Campaign Council respectively, while Senator Yari would provide overall leadership as Director-General.
