A member, representing Kosofe federal constituency, Kafilat Ogbara, has called on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency on drug abuse and unemployment ravaging the youths in the country.

At a town hall meeting with her constituents in Lagos, aimed at sharing insights, cross pollination and fertilisation of ideas, and suggestions, the lawmaker who is the chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, assured her people she would deliver all her campaign promises.

In the spirit of inclusivity, Ogbara pledged N200,000 for each person with special needs (people living with disability) in Kosofe federal constituency as a proof of showing them love and a sense of belonging.

“If drug abuse and unemployment is addressed, crime rate would be reduced by 50 per cent. I have moved six motions, sponsored six bills and would do more. I am collaborating with the United States, UAE, Tanzania and other foreign countries to bring ideas aimed to better the life of our people.”

She urged the people to be steadfast, determined and persevere even in the face of Nigeria’s unprecedented economic quandary as she continues in empowerment and skills acquisition programmes for women and youths as well other projects targeted to make the people economically independent and boost social and environmental development.

A constituent, who spoke anonymous implored her representative to always find out what they need exactly and deliver same through persons of integrity. “She should always ask us what they need and work with people with proven track record of integrity, we appreciate her and would support her always,” she said.

Sponsored by Yiaga Africa and the European Union among others, the meeting saw the presence of top government officials who reassured the people of their commitment to ameliorate their plight.

“For us and with our partners, we are particular about increasing the proportion of traditionally marginalised groups in governance, such as women, young people and persons with disabilities. This is why we are supporting Ogbara and the other women legislators to excel in office,” she said.
