Davido’s sister reveals how she controls his luxury spending

Sharon Ademefun, elder sister and Chief Financial Officer of Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed how she keeps tabs on the singer’s finances and tries to curb his spending on luxury cars and jewellery.

Ademefun disclosed this during an appearance on The Morayo Show hosted by television presenter Morayo Afolabi-Brown, where she spoke about her relationship with Davido and her role in managing the financial side of his business.

She said she holds a finance meeting with the singer every week to ensure he understands how his money is being spent, but admitted that her warnings do not always stop him from buying expensive items.

“Me and Davido sit and have a finance meeting every week because I think it is important for him to know how his money is being spent. I will now say, ‘David, please, no more cars,’” she said.

Ademefun said cars and jewellery are among the areas where she frequently challenges her younger brother, adding that she can sometimes see reports of his latest purchase online shortly after warning him against further spending.

“No more jewelry. 24 hours later, you know how they normally say it, ‘2 to 3 business days’, I’ll just see on the blogs. This latest car.”

She explained that their close relationship allows her to confront Davido on issues other members of his team might avoid, although it has also resulted in disagreements between them.

“The problem is that me and David were always fighting. If other people can’t tell him, me I’ll tell him. And so, I think the truth of the matter is it was a natural progression.”

According to her, their current professional relationship developed from years of working together on Davido’s career before they eventually went their separate ways and returned to a more formal business arrangement.

“I think that we both needed to go off and do our own things. And now I can take what I’ve learned in business and then help him put structure into his business. So, it’s just more official.”

Ademefun also declined to disclose details about Davido’s wealth when asked whether she was the person with access to such information, saying she had signed a non-disclosure agreement.

“I’ve signed a non-disclosure agreement! I can’t confirm or deny!”

She further disclosed that Davido has a management team handling his day-to-day logistics but said she sometimes intervenes when attempts to cut costs could affect his comfort, particularly during air travel.

“You know, if you book him on an airline that doesn’t have a good first class, he can get to the airport and say, ‘Yeah, if you want me to go to an event, buy first class’… I’ve bought a ticket at the airport many times.”

Ademefun also spoke about her clothing business, Body Politics, saying she started the brand after becoming frustrated by the limited clothing options available for women with different body types. She said the business currently offers sizes from XXS to 5XL and that she plans to focus on improving its existing operations rather than expanding too quickly.

“I think the next big thing is to do what I’m doing better. I don’t want to make the mistake of over-expanding too quickly, but I think you’re going to see more of me, more pop-ups, and more availability,” she said.
