David Mark-led ADC writes CJN over delayed Supreme Court judgment

The David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to ensure the swift delivery of the Supreme Court judgment in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.

In a letter dated April 28, 2026, the faction said the delay in judgment could jeopardise the party’s participation in the 2027 general elections and undermine the rights of its members.

The appeal, filed by former Senate President David Mark, challenges earlier rulings of the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court concerning the leadership structure of the ADC.

According to the faction, the Supreme Court had already reserved judgment in the matter, but any further delay could have serious political consequences.

“My Lord, this appeal was graciously heard expeditiously on the 22nd April, 2026 and judgment was thereafter reserved to a date to be communicated by the court,” the letter stated.

The faction warned that the absence of a clear leadership structure could affect the party’s ability to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for the 2027 elections.

It added that the situation placed the party at risk of being excluded from the electoral process, despite being a registered political party.

“Without the delivery of judgment within the next three days… the ADC stands the grave and irreversible risk of being excluded from participating in the 2027 General Elections,” the letter said.

The group also argued that such an outcome would disenfranchise supporters and weaken political participation within the party.

The ADC leadership crisis has persisted for months, with rival factions laying claim to control of the party structure amid ongoing legal battles.
