Obi in Jos, visits Mangu

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, arrived in Jos on Tuesday after his visit to Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Obi, who was reportedly attacked in Benue State, began a visit to Mangu Local Government Area following the recent bandit attack that left many residents dead and many houses destroyed.

Obi was received by state party executives and party chieftains led by Alfred Dapal Damiyal.

Obi was warmly received at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, by party members, supporters and other stakeholders who gathered to accompany him during the visit.

The visit, according to Dapal, was aimed at expressing solidarity with the affected community and supporting families impacted by the attack.

Dapal said the visit would also provide an opportunity for Obi to engage with local leaders, residents and victims as they continue to cope with the consequences of the incident.

During the visit, the NDC presidential candidate is expected to assess the situation on the ground, listen to the concerns of the people, and offer words of encouragement to families who have suffered losses. He is also expected to reaffirm the importance of strengthening security, protecting vulnerable communities, and ensuring that affected residents receive the necessary support.

The visit is expected to draw renewed attention to the plight of communities affected by recurring attacks in parts of Plateau State, amid calls by residents and stakeholders for urgent measures to protect lives and property.

Obi is also expected to advocate improved security and sustained support for victims of violent attacks, while urging relevant authorities to take decisive steps towards ending the cycle of killings and displacement in vulnerable communities.

He is also expected to listen to firsthand accounts from survivors and community leaders on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the security challenges confronting communities in the area.

The visit to Mangu formed part of Obi’s continued engagement with communities facing insecurity and other challenges across the country.
