2027: Sanwo-Olu commits campaign to God, assures APC of victory

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has placed its 2027 campaign in the hands of God, assuring party faithful of victory at the presidential and governorship polls.

The governor spoke on Tuesday at an interfaith prayer session organised for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu told the gathering of Christian, Muslim and traditionalist leaders that the essence of the event was to commit the party’s campaign efforts to God’s hands before the actual work of politics begins.

“The objective of this gathering was for us to commit our campaign and all of the exercises to the hand of Almighty God,We have prayed, we have faith, and we now go out and walk. God will crown our walk, our effort, and as we have so desired it, so shall it be.”

He expressed confidence that the prayers offered would translate into victory for Tinubu at the presidential election and for the party’s candidates in Lagos, including the state’s deputy governor and APC governorship candidate, Femi Hamzat, and his running mate, Damilola James.

“By the grace of God, by the support of all of you, by the support of all Lagosians, God Almighty will make it possible for our current deputy governor, who is a governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat, will be elected as the incoming governor,Hamzat and Damilola would emerge as governor-elect and deputy governor-elect on a joint ticket.

The governor also pledged his personal involvement in mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election bid across the Southwest, saying the presidential campaign would not be left unattended to.

Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, also addressed the gathering, urging the different faiths present to entrust the party’s fortunes to God ahead of the polls.

“We believe that God directs all affairs of human beings. And as such, we are placing our country in the powerful hands of God, our state, Lagos, in the powerful hands of God,” Hamzat said,

Hamzat extended prayers for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, himself and his running mate, as well as the party’s candidates for the National and State Assemblies.

“none of us will die, there will be no accident. We will not be victim of any disaster,” he said.

Hamzat expressed confidence that the people of Lagos would deliver victory for the party’s full slate of candidates, including three senatorial candidates, 24 House of Representatives candidates and 40 State House of Assembly candidates.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Interfaith Prayer Planning Committee, Oyinlomo Danmole, welcomed clerics and party members to the event, describing it as a gathering to pray for Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Lagos governorship ticket and all other candidates of the APC in Lagos.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the PBAT/KOH 2027 Campaign Organisation, Musiliu Obanikoro, urged party members to close ranks after the primaries and campaign as “one indivisible political family.” Speaking under the theme “Let God Go Before Us,” Obanikoro said the party’s rivals would not distinguish between factions within the APC and warned against internal bitterness ahead of the polls.

“We competed with dignity, let us campaign with respect,the primary was concluded months back and everyone must close ranks.”he said.

The event drew religious leaders, elected officials and party stakeholders, with organisers describing it as the formal spiritual send-off for the APC’s 2027 election campaign in Lagos State.
