Dalung, others abandon victorious Ajagba

Nigeria’s only pugilist at the Games, Efe Ajagba was like an orphan when he started his campaign on a victorious note Saturday night.
Ajagba punched out his Trinidad and Tobago opponent to reach the quarter final in the very first round with no Nigerian official anywhere near the ring side.
The Sports Minister, Dalung, his retinue of aides and all the officials of Nigeria Olympic Committee ( NOC) never showed up when Ajagba fought. The only Nigerian  official that saw the bout was boxing federation Secretary, Chimezie. In fact the three Nigerian journalists that covered the fight, my humble self, Guardian Newspapers, Christian Okpara and Vanguard’s Jacob Ajom had to constitute ourselves into a three-man supporters club to cheer Ajagba, who got the job done in style.
Ajagba after the fight said he will do everything to go all the way.
“I am here with one thing in mind and that is to win a medal. I will fight with the last drop of my blood.”
The young Nigerian pugilist who is making his Olympic debut will face a Kazazkhstan boxer who is rated number two in the world in his next bout on Thursday.
