The Cross River State government has inaugurated the remodelled Akim Market in Calabar Municipality.
The market which is one of the community markets within the Calabar Metropolis has also been expanded to accommodate 120 more stalls.
Inaugurating the project, the wife of the governor Rev. Eyoanwan Otu said the project is in line with the Governor’s “People First” mantra.
Speaking at the event, Rev Otu affirmed that “By revitalizing and modernizing these market structures, we aim not only to enhance the trading environment but also to alleviate the challenges faced by market users and sellers.”
“The significance of this structure reflects our commitment to ensuring that our markets meet the needs of a modern society while preserving the vibrancy and vitality of our cultural and economic heritage”, the governor’s wife said.
Rev. Otu further emphasized through her press secretary, Faith Okon that the remodelled Akim Market structures have been designed with the utmost consideration for functionality, safety, and convenience.
She added that the market will create a conducive environment for commerce and trade to thrive.
Earlier, the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality and Ndidem of the Quas, HRM Ndidem Eta Bassey Eteta III said the project is a welcome development.
He said the Akim people will not forget the project in a hurry and the entire people of Calabar Municipality appreciate the effort to bring development to the area.
