A new Commissioner of police, CP. George Chuku, has assumed duty at the Benue State Command, Makurdi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Police Command, (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday.

CP Chuku is taking over the Benue state command from CP Batholomew Onyeka who retired recently.

The statement read, “Benue State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that CP. George Chuku Esq. has assumed duty as the Commissioner of police, Benue State Command.”

“CP. Chuku who hails from Obioakpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, holds a Bachelor of science (Hon.) degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1987 and a Bachelor of law (LLB) degree from University of Calabar and was Called to Bar in 2003.

“He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd march, 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of police. As a young officer, he served in Yobe, Delta and Cross River state commands in operational, investigative and administrative capacities.”

According to the statement, CP. Chuku has served as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Administration, Akwa Ibom state, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations, Zone 3 Yola, in 2017, Director Legal Studies, Police Staff College, Jos and DCP in charge of operations, Ebonyi state Command.

“He was Promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police on 9/3/2022 and posted to Force Headquarters, Abuja as CP Administration/ Chairman Public Private Partnership (PPP).

“He was moved to the Force CID where he served as CP Special Enquiry Bureau from where he was transferred to Benue state command as Commissioner of Police.”

The statement said the dutiful police officer has been duly briefed by his predecessor and has taken over as the 40th Commissioner of Police, Benue state command.
