The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the status quo and allow Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe to assume leadership of the party in line with its constitution.
Reacting to INEC’s April 1 decision, Gombe said the commission must comply with a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal, which bars any action capable of undermining ongoing proceedings before the trial court.
He referenced Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026, noting that the court explicitly directed INEC to avoid steps that could “foist a fait accompli” on the judiciary.

Gombe insisted that the status quo as of September 2, 2025, must be maintained, stressing that due process and party constitutional provisions should guide the resolution of the leadership crisis.
He also welcomed INEC’s refusal to recognise the faction linked to David Mark, describing it as a step in line with the rule of law.
The ADC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and called for strict adherence to judicial directives as the legal battle over the party’s leadership continues.
