The leadership crisis rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has deepened, following an interim order by a State High Court restraining the party from proceeding with its planned congress.

The order, granted on April 10, 2026, by Justice Kyanson Samuel Lawanson, halted the exercise pending the determination of a substantive suit before the court.

The ruling followed a motion ex-parte filed by the applicant, Israel Ishaku, who approached the court seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights.

In his decision, Justice Lawanson held that, having reviewed the affidavit evidence, exhibits, and written address submitted by counsel, the application was meritorious and deserving of interim relief.

Consequently, the court restrained the respondents, including Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin, the African Democratic Congress, and retired Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka, from conducting the Adamawa State congress for the purpose of electing a state chairman.

The court held that the order was necessary to preserve the status quo and prevent actions that could prejudice the outcome of the suit, in line with the provisions of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules.

The matter was adjourned to April 17, 2026, for hearing.
