In a move poised to transform Nsukka into a thriving commercial hub, leading real estate developer My EyaHomes has commenced construction of a modern market complex designed to stimulate economic growth and support the urban renewal drive of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

The project, christened Ogige Merchandise Zone, is located beside John Cross Seminary School in Nru, Nsukka, and spans a vast 20-hectare expanse. More than just a market, the development is envisioned as a fully integrated commercial and service centre, featuring trading spaces, a commercial bank, schools, a hospital, and a police station.

This ambitious undertaking follows the recent demolition of shops in Nsukka Local Government Area, as part of the state’s restructuring efforts. The new market aims to offer displaced traders a fresh start while positioning Nsukka as a central player in the South-East’s emerging industrial and trade corridor.

During a site inspection, Chinedu Eya, CEO and Managing Director of My EyaHomes, stated that the project reflects the company’s expanding vision of building “not just homes, but communities of global standard.”

“Our vision for Ogige Merchandise Zone goes beyond just creating a marketplace,” Eya said.

“We aim to transform Nsukka into a thriving industrial hub. This project is designed to complement the innovation-driven leadership of Governor Peter Mbah.”

My EyaHomes, which began its journey in land and estate development in Abuja, has evolved into a key player in housing construction and now, commercial infrastructure development.

Eya called on the Enugu State Government to support the project’s execution and long-term sustainability, emphasizing its potential to boost internally generated revenue (IGR), create jobs, and attract private investments.

“This is a win-win for everyone, including the government, the traders, and the people of Enugu State,” he added.

The Ogige Merchandise Zone is widely viewed as a strategic response to the infrastructure needs of a growing Nsukka population and an effort to align private sector energy with the Mbah administration’s broader developmental blueprint.

With construction already underway, the market promises to reshape the economic landscape of Nsukka and affirm the role of private sector players in delivering public value
