Yoruba Community in Byazhin Kubwa Bwari, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider the plight of Nigerians, who are bearing the brunt of the policies of his administration.
The Iludemilade I and Oba Yoruba of Byazhin, Kubwa, Dr. Olu Adeoye, made the plea during the Ojude Oba Yoruba 2024 and his10th year of coronation in Abuja.
Dr. Adeoye lamented that the state of the nation’s economy is so harsh that many Nigerians can no longer foot their bills.
His words: “We need to continue praying to Almighty God because things are very difficult in the country. As Nigerians we need to touch people’s lives that is what am doing today. People are suffering, hungry, the federal government should consider the plight of the masses, if not they will turn this country to a battle ground.
“People with three or four children can no longer feed them, many children can no longer go to school, others can not pay their rents. The hardship is too much, they should please consider the poor masses in country.”
He explained that the occasion created an avenue to celebrate the Yoruba cultural heritage, adding, “I am celebrating 10 years on throne.This is my 10 year since I was coronated. I want to use this occasion to appreciate God for what he has done for me and my community.
“It is a very special programme because all the obas are here to celebrate and rejoice with me over God’s faithfulness. They are very happy with me.”
He further appealed to Nigerians to try and get something doing, adding that though the economy is very hard, they should not relent, stressing that crime is not an option.
On his part, Oba Eshe of Oduduwa kingdom, Adeyinka Okikioca also lamented the present economic situation, urging the federal government to make a change in the policies to improve source of livelihoods.
In her remarks, the wife of the Oba, Olori Folashade Adeoye, urged the government to reform the economic policies to save most families from collapsing.
“As women we want peace and changes in the economy so that we can have comfort in our homes. We are pleading with the federal government to come to our aid because the economy is very harsh. Most families can no longer foot their bills,” Olori Adeoye said.
Some participants at the event, Mrs Abiola Amirat and Adebayo Ayomide said the purpose of the occasion was to bring the Yoruba together in love to celebrate their heritage.
“We are praying to God to protect the the king so that he will eat the fruits of his labour. The population here is just a picture of the king’s love for the masses.
