The Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has dismissed concerns over an emerging political coalition, asserting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a resilient and unshaken institution, especially in the South West.
Governor Makinde made the remarks on Friday after a meeting of the South West PDP caucus held at the regional secretariat, named in honour of the late Hon. Soji Adagunodo. He emphasised that the PDP remains united and committed to strengthening itself from within, rather than fleeing at the slightest sign of challenge.
“The PDP in the South West is united. We are not moved by talks of any coalition. Those in the so-called coalition are familiar faces — many were once in PDP or APC. What have they truly offered? Should we assume they’ve suddenly changed because they switched parties? We won’t abandon our house because of cracks in the roof; we’ll fix it and move forward,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the PDP is well equipped to deal with internal issues, stating that the party has its mechanisms for resolving disputes and rebuilding unity.
Earlier at the meeting, which included representatives from all the six Southwest states, the caucus issued a communique declaring full support for the PDP and its national leadership. Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi; former Osun Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and other prominent leaders were in attendance.
The communique reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty to the PDP and its commitment to party unity, stability, and success across all levels.
It also pledged support for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and openness to alliances with like-minded Nigerians seeking to rescue the country from the grip of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
