Clergy urges govt to tackle insecurity, warns against religious division

The Zonal Superintendent of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Pastor Seyi Adeyemi, has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the growing insecurity across the country, describing it as a national concern that demands both government intervention and citizen vigilance.

Speaking during a media parley in Lagos, Pastor Adeyemi stressed that insecurity in Nigeria should not be interpreted through a religious lens, warning that the menace affects citizens irrespective of faith.

“The insecurity ravaging our nation should not be viewed through the lens of religion,” he said. “It is a plague affecting both Christians and Muslims alike. What we are witnessing is terrorism, not genocide.”

He noted that while Christian communities in northern Nigeria have suffered attacks, the crisis extends beyond religious boundaries.

“In the northern part of the country, Christianity is being challenged by bandits and terrorists who attack and burn churches. But let’s be fair — this is not limited to Christians alone. The bandits are also attacking mosques and Muslims. What is happening is actually terrorism,” he added.

Pastor Adeyemi also admonished ministers in Pentecostal churches to move away from what he described as “modern showmanship” and return to genuine spirituality focused on holiness, prayer, and divine purpose.

He said the forthcoming 2026 edition of the Apostolic Fire Congress aims to reignite the apostolic fire in the hearts of believers and refocus the church on its original mandate of spiritual revival and godly living.

According to him, the two-day congress will hold from January 9 to 10, 2026, at the CAC auditorium on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos. The event, which also marks the 10th anniversary of the spiritual gathering, will feature intensive worship, prayers, and teachings by anointed ministers, including Rev. (Dr.) Bukola Oluwagbemiga of LIFE Theological Seminary and Pastor Segun Awolumate of CAC Rejoice Arena, among others.

Adeyemi said the congress would be streamed live on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms to allow wider participation. He added that the church had also made arrangements to provide free transportation for attendees.

Reiterating his message on national security, Pastor Adeyemi urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, while encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and prayerful.

“Insecurity threatens our peace, unity, and progress as a nation,” he warned. “Government must act decisively, and citizens must support these efforts through vigilance and prayers, not division and blame.”

He expressed optimism that the upcoming Apostolic Fire Congress would serve as a platform for spiritual renewal, inspiring believers to uphold righteousness and contribute to national stability.
