The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called for sweeping reforms to improve workers’ welfare as Nigeria marks Workers’ Day amid rising living costs.

In a statement, the Executive Director of the centre, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani highlighted the struggles of millions facing economic hardship. He noted that workers across sectors struggle to meet basic needs despite their contributions.

CISLAC commended uniformed personnel and development workers for their resilience.

It blamed structural flaws and weak policies for workers’ vulnerability, stating that the dignity of labour has been undermined.

The organisation noted that welfare mechanisms often fail to reach average workers.

It urged governments to prioritise timely salaries, promotions, and training.

Workers were also advised to shun absenteeism and unethical practices, while embracing accountability.

“Improved welfare is a right, not a privilege,” CISLAC stated. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating worker-friendly policies.
