In order to remain relevant in their profession, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) is urging its members and like-minded professionals in the insurance value chain to embrace disruptions in the business environment brought about by technological advancement.

At its 2023 Council Retreat held in Lagos recently, the President/Chairman of Council of CIIN, Mr. Edwin Igbiti, in an address said, that by embracing and leveraging technology in their operations, they stand to gain a competitive edge and positioning ourselves as pioneers in the industry.

CIIN president who emphasized the importance of adaptability in the ever-evolving business landscape, stressed the need for proactiveness to confront challenges in the business landscape as the world keeps changing at an unprecedented rate.

“We must be prepared to meet these challenges. It would make us agile, responsive, and open to new ways of thinking and doing business. To foster adaptability, we must encourage a culture of continuous learning and innovation. We need to empower our employees to explore new ideas, take calculated risks, and embrace change. By fostering a culture that rewards experimentation and growth, we can ensure that our organization remains at the forefront of innovation”

With the theme, “Wellness Code for National Leaders in the Technology Age”, he urged them to prioritise their well-being as they navigate the challenges of the technology age.

“The wellness codes for leaders which include: Embracing a healthy lifestyle, prioritising mental health, building supportive relationships, promoting work-life integration, continuous learning and growth, practising ethical decision-making and seeking balance in technology use must be given top priority. By embracing these wellness codes, we can navigate the technology age while maintaining our well-being.

“As we progress, we must keep a keen eye on emerging technologies and trends. It is vital that we remain at the forefront of technological advancements that can potentially disrupt our industry”

Igbiti who charged them to be diligent on all fronts, equally implored them to work as a team and in unity to achieve and deliver beyond required results and beat expectations.

Let’s not lose sight of our core values and ethics. As leaders, we have a responsibility to operate with integrity, ensuring that our actions are aligned with our organisational values. Our success must always be built on a foundation of ethical conduct, accountability, and transparency”

He affirmed that embracing adaptability, staying ahead of emerging technologies, and upholding the professional core values, positions them well on solid ground to navigate the challenges ahead while they thrive. “Together, we can shape a future that is filled with growth, innovation, and success. I look forward to working together towards our collective goals. Stay focused, stay committed, and let us make our mark” he challenged them.
