Nigerians have taken to social media to demand justice for Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, who was reportedly murdered after being abducted between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State.
It was learnt that Christianah left her home in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu en route to the University of Lagos in the Yaba area of the state where she was observing her industrial training before she was abducted.
Christianah’s abductors were said to have reached out to her family through her telephone number and demanded N3 million as ransom on Monday, August 26.
The family pleaded for a reduction in the ransom demand and offered N350,000, which the abductors reportedly asked them to send to a certain account.
However, the abductors refused to release the victim after obtaining the agreed sum.
An X user, @letter_to_jack, gave detailed information about the incident in a series of tweets that have now gone viral.
The main suspect (name withheld) allegedly killed the victim and buried him in his parent’s house.
According to @letter_to_jack, intelligence operatives were able to uncover the location of the abductor through the BVN and account details used in collecting ransom from the family.
Meanwhile, many Nigerians who used the hashtag #JusticeforChristianah on X have called on the authorities to ensure justice is done in the matter.
Grammy-nominated singer, Ayra Starr tweeted, “Stop killing us! Stop raping us! Women deserve better #JusticeForChristianah.”
Another popular singer, Adekunle Gold tweeted, “Men, true strength is not about staying silent but about standing up to your friends who abuse, rape, or demean women. Let’s redefine masculinity by holding each other accountable.#JusticeforChristianah.”
Activist, Rinu Oduala tweeted, “The murder of Christianah is so chilling man. Not all men, but it’s still men that are enabling and perpetrating the crime. Your manly voice is loud enough for “not all men” but silent when a woman is violated or murdered. #justiceforchristianah.”
Tweeting a purported photo of the main suspect, social media personality, Babatunde Olusola Thomas, wrote, “People like this deserve everything bad happening to them. They don’t deserve to be around humans like us. I hope his victim gets justice as soon as possible. #JusticeForChristianah.”
