…cites 1,493 projects, urges transparency, accountability

The Kano Women Vanguard for Good Governance (KWVGG) has endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term, citing his administration’s investments in infrastructure, education and healthcare.
The group, in a statement by its Chairperson, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar, said the governor’s “Kano First Agenda” had recorded significant interventions across the state’s 44 local government areas since 2023.
According to data reviewed by the organisation, the administration has executed or initiated 1,493 projects, comprising 799 completed and 694 ongoing projects.
KWVGG said the figures demonstrated the breadth of the administration’s development agenda, particularly in roads, housing, education, healthcare and water supply.
The group highlighted the Dan Agundi Interchange, Tal’udu Cloverleaf Flyover, Katsina Road expansion and the revival of 5km road projects across the state as major infrastructure interventions.
Abubakar said: “Development is not measured by the number of projects announced alone, but by the quality of projects completed and the difference they make in the lives of citizens.
“We therefore encourage the government to sustain the momentum while strengthening transparency and accountability in implementation.”
The group said the multi-billion-naira road projects, including 5km dual-carriageway projects across 38 local government areas, would improve connectivity between rural communities, farming settlements and urban markets.
It also commended the government’s housing interventions, including the Rijiyar Gwangwan housing scheme, describing them as efforts capable of improving living conditions across the state.
On education, KWVGG recalled the state government’s declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, followed by the distribution of desks, uniforms, textbooks and other learning materials.
It also noted the sponsorship of 1,001 students to universities abroad, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms.
The women’s group said the investment was crucial to building the human capital needed for Kano’s long-term development.
In the health sector, KWVGG praised the reported rehabilitation and upgrading of 311 hospitals and healthcare facilities across the state.
It also cited the reconstruction of general hospitals, Asiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Nuhu Bamalli Hospital and the emergency section of Murtala Mohammed Hospital.
The organisation further noted the government’s partnership with UNICEF and eHealth Africa to solarise 28 rural primary healthcare centres, aimed at supporting vaccine cold-chain storage and maternal healthcare services.
KWVGG also commended the rehabilitation of the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants, saying their combined output is expected to exceed 200 million litres of water daily when completed.
It said the rehabilitation of the 15.6-kilometre Goron Dutse transmission line and interventions across nine regional water schemes would help improve water supply.
The group, as a women-focused organisation, also welcomed the reported disbursement of ₦50,000 each to about 7,000 women across the 44 local government areas.
It, however, urged stronger monitoring of empowerment programmes to ensure beneficiaries receive the intended support and that such interventions translate into sustainable economic benefits.
KWVGG said Governor Yusuf deserved a second term to consolidate the gains recorded so far and ensure that ongoing projects were completed to specification.
The group pledged to continue monitoring public projects and engaging government institutions on issues affecting women, youths and vulnerable communities across Kano State.
