Cross River: Police nab security guard over sexual assault of minor

A 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, is in police custody in Cross River State over the alleged sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl along Tinapa Road, Calabar.

The Cross River State Police Command said the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence on Friday, August 29, 2026, with the promise of giving her money, and sexually assaulted her there.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah in a statement said the  victim’s mother reported the case to the police the same day and operatives moved swiftly and arrested Godwin.

He explained that the Command confirmed the child has been issued a medical form for examination and treatment.

The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for a discreet and thorough investigation.

“The suspect will be accorded due process. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” ASP Eitokpah Sunday, said.
