…Facts emerge why casualty was high

From Jude Owuamanam, Jos

Jos city centre was, early Wednesday morning, thrown into confusion as youths in hundreds brandishing sophisticated arms chased people in Gadabiu, Chobe, Alikazaure and Ahmadu Way, the seat of the popular Jos main market.

Residents who took advantage of the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew from 7 am 3 pm, had gone out to do brisk business and replenish their stock of food, were taken by surprises as they all ran for their dear lives.

Ahmadu Bello Way and Gadabiu were so jam-packed that motorists had to abandon their cars and took to their heels for safety.

The youths, alleged to be from Angwan Rukuba, our correspondent gathered, vowed to avenge Sunday’s killing of more than 27 persons from the area.

One of the motorists, who spoke to our correspondent, said, “My brother, it’s now you know that somebody on foot is better than any body with car.”

Meanwhile fresh facts have emerged why the casualties in the Rukuba massacre was high.

One of the eye witnesses, who gave his name as Michael said that the attackers deceived the youths by going there adorn with camouflage belonging to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

He said that because the area is often haven for drug peddlers and addicts, they all ran away for fear of being arrested.

“It was this deceit that made the attackers to kill more people, if not they wouldn’t have gone out alive”

As at the time of writing, calm is yet to retain to the city centre.
