Ahead of the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the sixth civilian governor of Edo State since the creation of the state on August 27, 1991, Benin City, the state capital, is filled with anxiety and anticipation.

As at last night, members of the Inauguration Committee set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) were in a frenzy, trying to put finishing touches to all aspects of their assignment to ensure a hitch-free inauguration exercise.

Already, the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has carried out a dress rehearsal at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium ahead of his inauguration.

He would be sworn in along with his deputy, Dennis Idahosa at the Stadium by the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa.

By Monday morning, security had been beefed up around the Stadium with stern-looking military men and women on guard duty, just as major roads in Benin City were adorned with posters of the Governor-elect and his deputy.

Earlier yesterday, the APC Transition Committee presented its report to the Governor-elect, setting the stage for today’s inauguration.

Meanwhile, the governor-elect has announced the appointment of Fred Odianosen Itua as his chief press secretary (CPS).

The appointment, the first of the incoming administration, will take place from today, according to a statement personally signed by Okpebholo.

Itua is a distinguished journalist with a wealth of experience, having previously served as the assistant political editor at The Sun Publishing Limited. His proven track record in journalism, coupled with his dedication to maintaining high standards in public communication, will serve as crucial assets to the new administration as it aims to fulfil its mandate for the people of Edo State.

The appointment reinforces Okpebholo’s commitment to fostering transparency and effective communication within his administration, ensuring the voices and needs of the citizens are prioritised.
