Father of the nine-year-old boy, Korede Taiwo, who was chained by his father, Francis Korede has begged for forgiveness.
Korede’s action had attracted outrage over the boy’s torture in a church with many describing it as height of cruelty
He made the plea when his son was handed over to the state government by the police at the Area command, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Korede, who pastors the Key of Joy Celestial Church of Christ, Ajibawo, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government area of the state, regretted his action and showed remorse.
His words:  “I didn’t know there is punishment for my action but now I know. I regret my actions. I want forgiveness from the government. We used to advise him (Korede) but because we didn’t know the implication.”
A woman, who was identified as  Korede’s step mother also pleaded with the government to forgive her and the husband.
The police team was led by the state Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.
The minor was rescued last Friday by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who later handed him over to the state Police command for further investigation.
After initial formalties, the boy was  handed over to the Director of Social Welfare Services in the  state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Shotubo Olumide by the Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Human Trafficking of the Command, Oluwatoyosi Bello.
