Prada Uzodimma, daughter of the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma attended the Call to Bar ceremony of the 2023 beneficiaries of the Prada Uzodimma Law School Scholarship Grant (PUSG2023). The event marked yet another milestone in her journey of transforming access to legal education in Nigeria.

Fifteen beneficiaries of the 2023 cohort were called to the Nigerian Bar, joining over 30 young lawyers who have passed through the PUSG initiative since its inception. Founded in 2021, PUSG was born out of Uzodimma’s belief that no aspiring lawyer should be denied the opportunity to fulfil his or her dreams due to financial hardship. What began with just five scholars has grown into a formidable force for equity in legal education, already supporting over 50 students across Nigeria.

She watched with pride as her beneficiaries were formally admitted as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Her presence was more than symbolic; it was a reaffirmation of her commitment to building a legal community where merit, not background, defines opportunity.

“Today is not just about the call to bar; it is about the call to purpose. “Each of these scholars is a reminder that the future of justice in Nigeria is not only bright but inclusive,” she said.

The PUSG provides beneficiaries with access to mentorship through the it’s fireside chat series, legal internships with principle legal consult and career development support. It is this hands-on model that has produced success stories, like Aluma Chukwuebuka Harmony, a 2022 scholar now working with top-tier law firm Banwo & Ighodalo.

The initiative has received wide acclaim from key legal stakeholders, including Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, and the former Attorney General of Federation, Abubakar Malami, both of whom have publicly endorsed the transparency and transformative impact of the programme.

The PUSG’s influence in the legal sector mirrors the broader values upheld by the Uzodimma family, public service, education and social impact.

As the daughter of a sitting governor, Prada has used her platform not for privilege but for purpose. Her work through PUSG is part of a growing legacy of young leaders shaping the future of justice, one scholar at a time.

As the 2023 cohort now enters the legal profession, the message is clear: PUSG is not just funding dreams, it is building a generation of lawyers committed to justice, equity and national development.
