CADEF, JLA to spark green innovation in Nigeria
By Chinenye Anuforo
The Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) has formed a strategic alliance with Jacob’s Ladder Africa (JLA) to ignite green innovation and youth entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
This collaboration will bring JLA’s acclaimed greenlabs incubation program to Nigeria, marking a significant step forward in fostering youth-centered green solutions, climate innovation, and sustainability across West Africa.
JLA’s mission aligns perfectly with CADEF’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youth. Through research, advocacy, training, and entrepreneurship development, JLA empowers young people to participate in the green economy and contribute to climate action.
With over 53% of Nigerian youth aged 15-35 unemployed or underemployed, the green economy presents a promising opportunity to create jobs and address environmental challenges. The International Labour Organization estimates that 24 million jobs worldwide could be created by the green economy by 2030.
Prof. Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, Executive Director of CADEF, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: “This collaboration aligns with our shared values and goals. By equipping Nigerian youth with the right tools and mentorship, we can empower them to lead the country’s green transition.”
CADEF’s track record in youth development is impressive. The Fingreen Financial Literacy Programme, launched in August 2023, equipped over 800 Nigerian youths with essential financial knowledge. Currently, CADEF is advancing the Digital Financial Services project, training over 100 People with Disabilities (PWDs) to enhance financial inclusion.
The partnership between CADEF and JLA will establish greenlabs in Nigeria, supporting young entrepreneurs in building scalable green ventures. The Renewable Energy Innovation Challenge – Lagos Edition will kickstart the program, inviting innovators to propose renewable energy solutions to combat climate change and improve energy access.
Sellah Bogonko, CEO and Co-Founder of Jacob’s Ladder Africa, highlighted the partnership’s potential: “By launching greenlabs in Nigeria, we are tapping into the incredible potential of Nigerian youth to drive sustainable economic growth.”
Successful applicants to the Renewable Energy Innovation Challenge will receive mentorship, funding opportunities, and potential sponsorship into the greenLabs incubation program. This collaboration aims to foster a thriving green economy in Nigeria, providing young entrepreneurs with the platform to turn their innovative ideas into reality.
