Centre for African American Research Studies (CAARS) has unveiled its 2026-2030 African Development Initiatives. It also inducted country directors, state, regional and programme coordinators to serve in different countries in Africa and the world.
Director General, Nnamdi Nwaodu, explained that CAARS is a multi-disciplinary African research and development centre, with a growing network of scholars, practitioners, institutions and partners across Africa’s five sub-regions and the global African diaspora.
He said: “Over the years, CAARS has consistently organised international conferences, workshops, policy dialogues, and capacity-building programmes, while also contributing to knowledge production through the publication of journals, books, and research monographs.
“Our mission has always been clear: to promote research-driven development, foster intellectual exchange, strengthen institutional capacities, and advance Africa’s voice in global discourse” he explained.
He said the 2026–2030 African Development Initiatives represented a bold and forward-looking framework that builds on past achievements while responding to emerging continental and global challenges:

“These initiatives are designed to deepen interdisciplinary research, promote climate justice advocacy, strengthen educational and cultural diplomacy, enhance leadership development, and facilitate policy engagement across Africa and the diaspora.
“They are anchored on the belief that Africa’s progress must be driven by strong institutions, informed leadership, and inclusive partnerships.”
The occasion featured the induction of new country directors, state, regional and programme coordinators and was attended by members of the diplomatic community, development partners, captains of industry, civil society organisations and the media.
The new Country Director, United Kingdom, Dr. Ethelbert Onuoha, said his appointment represented a fresh challenge to promoting the values canvassed by the institute. He pledged to undertake his assignment with vigour, passion and uncommon commitment, saying that anything that would benefit Nigeria and Africa at the global stage are his priorities.
He expressed delight that his appointment was coming at a time when there is much to contribute at the global stage in the areas research, networking, development issues and communicating the African values and voices to the world.
