Billionaire industrialist AbdulSamad Isyaku Rabiu is a titan and a gentleman. He understands that to become fabulously wealthy and to earn great fame are mere triumphs not of humanity but of vanity. Unlike his fellow billionaires who are so far removed from their immediate reality, Rabiu never splurges on trifles.

In 1988, the Kano-born businessman laid the first stone of what would become BUA Group. 37 years later his blueprint has become a fortress of industry. From cement to sugar, from flour to philanthropy, the magnate has redefined what it means to build with purpose. He didn’t wait for opportunities but created the playbook. Where others wait for applause, he plays for legacy. His calm commands, quiet brilliance, and relentless pursuit of excellence have made him a symbol of hope for young entrepreneurs and an inspiration for generations to come. This quality has earned him tons of encomium, awards and recognitions including a prestigious national honours of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). And more are still pouring in.

Not overlooking Rabiu’s contribution to the national economic development, the Board of Governors of PEARL Awards Nigeria, in commemoration of its 30th anniversary, unanimously chose Rabiu for the honour of its prestigious ‘Pearl Lifetime Achievement Award.’

At the ceremony with the theme, “Celebrating a Legacy of Corporate Excellence” held Sunday November 30 inside the Ballroom of Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, with an illustrious gathering of top corporate leaders, policymakers, governors, and royalty,  Rabiu was conferred with the award.

Tayo Orekoya, the Awards’ President, said the recognition was to celebrate Rabiu’s remarkable achievements and contributions to Nigeria’s industrial growth in the manufacturing sector, the Nigerian Capital Market and the nation’s economy as a whole through his exemplary and visionary leadership, innovative business acumen and excellent human and capital management.

For three decades, the PEARL Awards has remained the only awards body in Nigeria that honours quoted companies on the basis of merit, using verifiable, empirical data. But the Lifetime Achievement Award, instituted in 2020 in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the PEARL Awards, is awarded once in five years and reserved for outstanding personalities who have contributed significantly to the pragmatic growth and development of the Nigerian economy. The first recipient of the award was Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
