As concerns deepen over Nigeria’s evolving security landscape, the Institute of Security Nigeria (ISN) is set to convene its 18th International Conference in Lagos on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

The gathering is expected to draw top political leaders, security chiefs, diplomats, traditional rulers, scholars and media professionals for high-level deliberations on safeguarding the nation.

This year’s conference, themed “Expanding the Frontiers of Innovations in Security Enhancement and Nation Building in Nigeria,” will feature a keynote address by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.).

Also billed to speak are: former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Major General Olu Bajowa (rtd.); Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Gambari; and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos,  Folasade Ogunsola, among other distinguished personalities.

Speaking ahead of the event, ISN Deputy President/Chief Executive Officer,  Adebayo Akinade, said the conference aims to spotlight practical, innovative strategies to strengthen national security while upholding human rights and democratic values.

He added that discussions would focus on evidence-based policies, operational best practices across the security ecosystem, and actionable partnerships among government, the private sector and civic actors.

According to Akinade, Nigeria’s path to sustainable security requires a deliberate blend of innovation, strong governance and coordinated capacity across all tiers of government.

“Technology without governance is insufficient. Governance without capacity is ineffective,” he said. “Collaboration between federal, state and local governments, communities and the private sector must be systematic, not episodic. With sustained political will and professional leadership, reforms are achievable within a relatively short period and will deliver measurable improvements in safety, confidence and national development.”

The conference is expected to host thousands of participants both physically and virtually, including senior officers from the Armed Forces, Police, Department of State Services, academia, civil service, corporate security organizations, media practitioners and student groups.
