Chukwuma Egemba
We are at it again. History is about to repeat itself. Unfortunately, not many people living today experienced, understood or witnessed firsthand the appeasement policy of Britain towards Hitler’s Germany in 1938-39. However, historians, academics, those sufficiently educated and current affairs enthusiasts will remember and agreed that British appeasement did not stop Hitler from occupying and conquering the whole of Europe and plunging the world into World War 11. Appeasement has not and will never work.
Today, many individuals and groups are willingly appeasing President Muhammadu Buhari and his government’s cabals and supporting them to another term in office. Most worryingly, community groups, community leaders, ‘royal fathers’ and those perceived as influential and opinion moulders are being forced/coaxed into appeasing the enemy of the people, unrepentant jihadist monster and Fulani hegemonic.
It is obvious that Buhari and his cabal are fighting this election to accomplish their long drawn up plan, which was temporarily halted by the British and independence in 1960. This plan was reversed and updated between 1966 and 1999 and confirmed, with the adopted of Constitution of 1999. Buhari and his supporters are resolutely against any constitutional amendment and restructuring because they need it to achieve their end game. Therefore, anybody or group/party supporting/endorsing Buhari as their presidential candidate and APC is appeasing Buhari and his Fulani cabal.
In October 1960, Ahmadu Bello (then Premier of Northern Nigeria) was quoted as saying: “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great-grandfather Uthman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power.
We use the minorities of the North as willing tools and the South as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us and never allow them to have control over their future.” How do you justify the one-sidedness (Fulani-only) of his security and judicial appointments and inaction against herdsmen who terrorise, kill and ethnic-cleanse communities in the middle belt and southern Nigeria?
In October 2010, Lawal Kaita, former Governor of old Kaduna State said: “Anything short of a Northern President is tantamount to stealing our Presidency. Goodluck Jonathan must go and he will go. And what happened? Jonathan was literally ‘forced’ out of office. Are you still in doubt?
In August 2001, Muhammadu Buhari, said in a speech he delivered at a seminar organised by the Supreme Council of Sharia in Nigeria: “I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria….God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.” If you are not a Buharist, a non-Fulani and a non-Muslim in a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and diverse country like Nigeria, how does that make you feel? Does Buhari in any way, shape or form present himself as a national leader? Who will be proud to have Buhari as his/her leader, with this mindset?
Buhari and his cabal cannot deceive us. There is nothing in his past life, his military career and his regime as a military head of State that is fondly remembered and that will occupy prominent place in Nigeria history (1966-2019). He is a reactionary Muslim, but not an ideologue.
Regardless of the status of Ilorin – a Yoruba land, the Oduduwa people of Yoruba is not a conquered territory; neither are the Igbo nation, Ijaw, Ibibio, Efik, Annang and other nations in the South. They are not conquered people. It is not acceptable that few individuals, for purely personal and materialist gains/ego should drag entire nations into disrepute.
I am Igbo from Mbaise (pure and applied), and unashamedly and unapologetically Biafran. I may be accused of being biased. That’s fine; bias is a trait inherent in every human being. Buhari is biased against all Nigerians, especially the Igbo in favour of his Fulani community. Bola Tinubu is biased against the Oduduwa people of Yoruba in favour of his personal ambitions. In fact, all human beings are biased in one form or another – for good or for bad.
We must be guided against the appeasers of Buhari. Owing to their personal ambitions, they are more dangerous. They are prepared to mortgage their conscience, their people and the entire nation to achieve their personal ambitions. Nigerians should take note and be warned.
