The Nasarawa State Ministry of Special Duties on Humanitarian Services and NGOs has reaffirmed its commitment to building stronger collaborations with the State House of Assembly to enhance service delivery to the people.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Services, Princess Margaret Elayo, made this known while defending the Ministry’s 2024 budget proposal before the House Standing Committee on Women Affairs in Lafia, the state capital on Tuesday.
She highlighted the Ministry’s achievements, stating that it had successfully implemented 93% of its programs, including distributing palliatives to vulnerable residents, fertilizers to farmers, and relief materials to victims of floods and fire disasters.
“We are determined to ensure that our Ministry continues to touch lives positively by providing timely interventions. So far, we have completed 93% of our planned activities, and we aim to improve in the coming year,” Princess Elayo said.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Hajiya Hajara Danyaro, commended the Ministry’s efforts and urged it to scale up its activities to complement the state government’s efforts in providing succor to residents.
“The Ministry has done well, but there is room for improvement. We encourage you to expand your scope and ensure no one is left behind in receiving the dividends of democracy,” she said.
Hajiya Danyaro assured the Ministry of the Assembly’s continued support for its programs, emphasizing the lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state deliver quality services.
Other members of the committee, including Mr. Aliyu Yusuf Chundaya, Hon. Peter Akwe, Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, and Hon. Musa Saidu, also lauded the Ministry’s efforts. They emphasized the need for MDAs to align with the policy objectives of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to maximize impact.
The budget defense session concluded with a call for a sustained partnership between the Ministry and the legislature to meet the needs of Nasarawa residents effectively.
