As Nigerians continue to struggle with erratic electricity supply, the Federal Government has been urged to adopt briquette energy, sourced from pineapple, as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s ongoing power crisis.
Agricultural expert Olusegun Alabi made the call at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, stating that briquettes produced from pineapple waste have the capacity to generate electricity, produce gas, and power industrial operations at minimal cost.
He added that embracing this technology would serve as a strategic tool for boosting agricultural productivity—especially pineapple cultivation—and stimulating economic growth.
Alabi, founder of Davidolar Farms, explained that adoption of briquette energy would significantly reduce diesel and generator maintenance expenses, prevent the shutdown of agro-processing businesses, and ultimately lead to substantial financial savings for Nigeria.

According to him, the cumulative benefits could translate into billions of naira saved annually, increased job creation, and enhanced competitiveness within the agricultural value chain.
“Briquette energy can effectively replace conventional electricity. Our findings show that the machines we are installing will run fully on briquette power. This is not theory—it is a proven system.
“Once the factory becomes operational, Nigerians will see firsthand that our power challenges can be addressed through local innovation.
“Many companies are shutting down due to high energy costs, yet briquette technology offers an affordable and sustainable alternative,” he said.
