United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken has arrived the Presidential Villa to meet with President Bola Tinubu, marking the highest-ranking official from the Biden Administration to visit since the May 29 elections that brought the Nigerian President into office.
Blinken arrived the forcourt of the villa at 6: 52 pm local time.
He was revived by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs minister Yusuf Tuggur.
During his visit, Blinken is expected to hold bilateral meetings with president Tinubu and some of his key appointees.
Blinken’s week long visit to Africa includes stops in Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Angola.
He is focusing on discussions related to regional security, conflict prevention, democracy promotion, and trade.
The visit aims to underscore President Joe Biden administration’s commitment to partnership with Africa, addressing issues like climate, economic investment, and food and health.
He had earlier visited Ivory Coast in a bid to forge a united front with key African democracies as crises engulf the world.
In Abidjan, Blinken met with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, a veteran leader who has won US praise for consolidating democracy.
